7 Signs That Your Partner Is A Pathological Liar

Love and relationships are based on truth, honesty, trust and loyalty. There’s a lot that goes into making a relationship successful and all of that comes at a cost. Relationships come with a lot of risks and a lot of drama but it is essential for us to be able to see past it and understand that our relationships can be a source of joy and happiness for us. This is why it is important for every person to nurture and maintain their relationship with their partner but sometimes some people are troubled with their own problems and just can’t help but be dishonest. Lying and omitting information can do immense damage to a relationship and sometimes, it can turn a relationship toxic and put you in a never-ending and unhealthy cycle that contains a huge web of lies. But at the same time, it is important to understand if your partner is a compulsive or rather a pathological liar and spotting the signs early can save you a lot of trouble. Here are a few signs that your partner is truly a pathological liar.

1. They are always confident about what they say even when it isn’t the truth.

You might think that pathological liars are lying for a reason. You might think that they’re deliberately trying to ᴅᴇᴄᴇɪᴠᴇ you and divert you from the truth. They are actually convincing THEMSELVES that what they are telling you is the truth. They are determined to just create completely different realities for themselves. And they will try to convince you of their own manufactured versions of reality as well.

That’s why nothing really changes whenever you happen to catch them in a lie. They are convinced that they are telling the truth all of the time even when they are clearly living in a delusion. You might have caught them red-handed, but they still won’t be convinced of anything that you might say. In fact, they might even turn the whole situation around on you.

They’re going to appear as confident as ever even when they’re already lying to you.

2. They do such a good job at making it seem like they’re not liars.

You have probably already read a few articles and pieces that are designed to teach you to spot out some basic signs whether you’re dealing with someone who is lying to you or not. You might have been taught to notice if their breathing is labored, if they’re blinking too much, or if they’re maintaining eye contact or not.

But the sad news is that none of those signs are going to apply to someone who is a pathological liar. They are really good at lying and they are fully aware of these very basic behavioral signs that a person might be lying. That is why as a result, they have learned to just do the complete opposite of what people typically look for in a liar. They won’t really subject themselves to typical lying behavior and they will make it difficult for you to spot them out.

They are so good of just acting the same way regardless of whether they are lying or not. They might be telling the truth and they will be acting a certain way. And they might be telling a lie while acting in the exact same manner. You would never be able to tell.

3. Notice your partner’s body language when they talk to.

While their mouth might be spinning a web of lies, their body just gives it away without even realising it. They may avoid eye contact or be a tab bit too confident. They might even seem closed off. Their arms might be crosses or their legs or their feet may not be pointing towards you or they may turn away or act distracted or busy while lying to you. Some people tend to fidget or sweat when they lie so keep an eye out for any physical signs.

4. They can be very manipulative in a subtle manner.

A pathological liar can be a very manipulative individual. However, the dangers that they pose with their lying can be very subtle. And that’s why it would be really hard to see how manipulative they can truly be.

The reason that the kind of manipulative behavior that they engage in is so subtle is that they don’t really intend to be manipulative. They might be trying to convince you of a fantastical lie or an idea. And you might see it as controlling or manipulative behavior, but it’s them just being themselves.

5. They forget the details

When people lie, they often tend to forget the details because you are not the only one they’re lying to. They may forget the lie they told you and change the details of the story and make it sound a lot different.

6. They will either tell you a story and be very vague

Liars will either tell you a story and be very vague about the information they give you and avoid any details that might get them in trouble or they will give far too many details and make it sound too fancy and sometimes even unbelievable.

7. They refuse to accept

If you confront a pathological or a ᴄᴏᴍᴘᴜʟsɪᴠᴇ liar, they will refuse to accept it. You can give them proof and beg them to tell you the truth but they simply won’t because they are incapable of handling a confrontation with the truth. They will try to spin more lies and tell you that you’re wrong or that you’ve been mistaken. They know the art of subtle manipulation.
