Kate Middleton has pulled out of a huge appearance she had scheduled after an update on her ca.ncer treatment.
The Princess of Wales was expected to make a royal appearance yesterday (18 June) at Royal Ascot but pulled out of the second day.
Other guests at the Berkshire event were hoping to see Kate alongside husband, Prince William who had been named as one of the famous figures awarding prizes.
Middleton’s name was included in the official programme and she was expected to appear in the carriage, beside William.
Yet, moments after the carriage was released, Kensington Palace confirmed that she would not be in attendance.
They also hinted that her absence, despite being noted in the programme, was because of a “communication error”.
The 43-year-old was scheduled to appear in the procession at 12pm but Kensington Palace confirmed she would not be attending at 12.20pm.
A spokesperson for the Palace shared: “We notified Ascot that Her Royal Highness would not be attending. “Unfortunately an inaccurate version of the carriage list was issued in error after that notification. The correct list was then circulated.”
A source at Royal Ascot shared: “Obviously it’s a great disappointment the Princess of Wales not being able to attend, but everyone is of course mindful of her schedule and we look forward to welcoming her next year.”
Guests in attendance were disappointed that the Princess couldn’t attend but they seemed understanding. One person shared: “It’s disappointing but she’s got to pace herself. Our daughter was very ill once so we understand.”, “It’s a very hot day even if you’re in full health so I think it’s the right decision. William and the King and Queen will be here so still lots to look forward to” while another agreed: “Good for her, I think it’s the right decision. If you’re not feeling your best the last thing you want is someone taking photos of you. She’s done what’s right for her which is the most important thing.”
It seems the royal is still trying to find the right balance after being in recovery for ca.ncer.
Also, Kate missed Royal Ascot last year after being diagnosed in February 2024 and receiving 6 months of preventive chemotherapy.
In January 2025, she shared that she was in remission but that King Charles, who was also diagnosed with the disease, had ongoing weekly treatment.
