9-year-old girl finds an abandoned baby in her backyard: “It’s a miracle that he was still alive!”
Motherhood is one of the greatest gifts that Mother Nature can give us – we just need to have the instinct and the desire to give birth to a child, the fruit of our love.
In short, being parents and, above all, being mothers is not a simple job, nor is it as natural as it appears. There are, in fact, women who get pregnant by mistake or unwittingly and do not know what to do with their pregnancy.
Many abort legally while they are within the allowable time limit; others decide to entrust the newborn to adoption services, while others abandon their unborn children wherever they can, exposing them to enormous risks to their lives and safety.
And this tragic type of event happened in this incredible story that has as its hero a 9-year-old girl named Elysia.
At first, 9-year-old Elysia Laub thought the pink limbs she saw wriggling in her grassy Indiana back yard were those of a little pig.
“We have two pigs,” the girl told WISH-TV. “I thought they had a baby or something.”
It was late Monday morning, the summer heat already climbing. Still unsure what she’d stumbled upon, Elysia ran inside.
“Mom,” she said. “There’s something in the yard.”
The two ventured back outside, where between a field and a row of trees, Heidi Laub saw what her daughter had discovered: a newborn baby.
Mother and daughter immediately called for help who then rescued the newborn and took him to the hospital, safe and sound and under the close care of the medical team that constantly monitored him.
Apparently, according to the earliest speculations, the mother of the newborn was a teenager who was on the run and probably did not have any support from her family, friends or the community at large.
The baby probably was born only hours before she was discovered.
She may have been there overnight, the sheriff said. She was found wrapped in a black towel.
Authorities have nicknamed her “infant Jane Doe” and their “miracle baby.” The sheriff called Elysia the infant’s “guardian angel.” The baby, with brownish-blonde hair, was taken to a local hospital where medical staff evaluated her and determined she was healthy, full-term and in good condition, aside from being sunburned.
Despite an extensive search with police dogs and a helicopter, the abandoned baby’s mother has yet to be located.
The child will be placed in foster care.
Who knows what would have happened to this newborn child abandoned by his mother if it hadn’t been for Elysia? Fortunately, alls well that ends well, and we all hope that the teenage mother will repent and finds the support she needs from the community or her family.
What would you do if you found an abandoned baby in your backyard?
