During a Caribbean family vacation, an 18-year-old got into trouble with his father because of his swimsuit choice.
While on the vacation, the young guy sought to wear a provocative swimwear, which sh0cked his father. His father advised that he purchase something more modest, particularly since the first suit turned nearly transparent when wet.
However, the father was in for a surprise following his son’s little shopping excursion.
Desperate for guidance, the father resorted to the ‘Am I the A**hole’ subreddit to discuss his predicament, looking for feedback on his son’s risky wardrobe decision. He described how his son, Jax, accompanied him and his wife on a week-long cruise to commemorate the conclusion of Jax’s school year.
“Jax is a great kid, but maybe a little too confident,” the father stated, referring to his son as a “exhibitionist.” According to him, Jax is extremely confident, attractive, athletic, and charming, and he frequently wins people over, even while opposing authority.
On this occasion, Jax’s confidence resulted in a conflict with his father. The young man brought just tiny Speedo-style swimwear for the whole vacation, which left his father disappointed.
“His swimsuit was definitely not appropriate,” the parent remarked, referring to the showing swim briefs as “flaunt it” outfit. He stated that the particular brand, AussieBum, offers these suits with a “enhancing pouch” and “maximum sheerness when wet,” leaving little room for creativity. “If they had been black, I would have let it go, but baby blue? It was like, ‘hey, look at me.’ “There was no mystery to that suit,” the father bemoaned.
Embarrassed by his son’s decision, the father respectfully suggested that he purchase a more acceptable swimwear from one of the ship’s boutiques. After some opposition, Jax returned with a somewhat more modest replica of his first costume, but it still didn’t meet his father’s expectations. The father insisted Jax get a regular set of swim trunks, and after some back-and-forth, Jax finally agreed.
“He complained about it and requested to wear his original outfit, but I refused. I have to respect his confidence – he didn’t mind the attention he’d get – but there’s a time and place,” the parent said.
Before asking Redditors, “AITA for making him change?” The father claimed that he financed the expense of the vacation and believed it gave him the ability to enforce certain regulations. He further stated that, while his kid is officially an adult, he still expects him to act “decent” in public.
The feedback on the subreddit was varied. Many people agreed with the parent, saying they would not want to see his child in such an exposing bikini, while others said he overreacted.
One commenter said, “Ask your son how he’d feel if you wore that same suit and sat next to him.” Somebody said, “Yeah, he’s 18, but no one wants to see that on a family vacation, regardless of age.”
