It’s always an exciting day when a shelter dog finds his permanent home, but Chester’s day was exceptionally special.
After a terrible start in a neglectful household and nearly 600 days at the shelter, he’s on his way to his new home in luxury.
Chester, a 4-year-old pit bull, and three other canines were rescued from an abusive and neglected environment in August 2022. He was discovered chained up in an abandoned house, nearly starving to death.
“Chester was completely skin and bones, the dog couldn’t even lay down. He had his paw stuck in a prong collar and he was a mess. He had to be carried out after a little bit because he could not stand,” Kyrie Brickman, kennel manager at Euclid Animal Shelter, told WJW.
“He absolutely was so relieved to see people and to be honest, I don’t know how much longer he would have lasted.”
Chester was in good care at the shelter. Over time, he recovered, gained weight, and learnt to trust people again. However, he failed to locate a permanent residence.
The shelter advertised him on Facebook as a “loyal and handsome companion” who enjoys fun and snuggling, but no one seems interested in adopting him.
Chester required an experienced household with no small children, “one that understands his past, offers patience, and provides an environment where he can be the sole,” the shelter stated.
After a year and a half, Chester had spent over 600 days in the shelter. It appeared that he would never find his own house. He was rescued with three other dogs, all of whom found homes before him.
However, Chester’s fortunes eventually improved. According to FOX 8, Lauren Reitsman learned about Chester after a friend gave her an internet article. She knew she was the ideal person to adopt the adorable dog.
Lauren adopted Chester, and for his final ride out of the shelter, she made it extra memorable by hiring a limousine!
The dog arrived in style at his long-awaited forever home, where he is reportedly fitting in well. Lauren says she’ll make meatballs, his favorite food.
