Inspirational McDonald’s worker with dσwn ѕчndrσmє retires After 32 Years Of Service
Russell started working for McDonalds in Sydney in 1986, over 3 ½ decades ago. He quickly became a popular employee at the Northmead McDonald’s in Western Sydney.
He was hired at a time when people with disabilities rarely had the opportunity to work for a living. And when he got the job, he broke the stigma that people with disabilities are not able to hold a job.
His career started with work experience, but when he showed how hard he worked, he moved to a secure job with McDonald’s party boxes. He was a cheerful employee who always had a huge smile on his face.
He also tried out other roles in the restaurant, even in the kitchen.
Now at the age of 50, he will leave behind sad customers, many of whom make the trip to the shop just to see him.
McDonald’s supervisor Courtney Purcell said Mr O’Grady has become an icon in Northmead.
‘We have regular customers who come to see Russell on Thursday and Friday, and the staff look after him, so we’ll miss him,’ she said.
When Russell reached his 30th year of employment at McDonald’s, employees threw a party for him. He has since retired for health reasons. But this has not stopped Russell from working. He is currently busy with dog therapy and bowling!
