Money concerns can cause severe conflict in households, particularly when a couple disagrees on how to handle substantial money. Frida and her husband had been saving for years to buy their dream home, but everything changed when his ex-wife fell seriously ill.
He chose to spend the money on her medical treatments, which Frida adamantly opposed. Taking matters into her own hands, she took a daring move without his knowledge, resulting in immediate conflict. Frida is now sharing her tale and seeking suggestions on how to resolve the situation.
Here is Frida’s letter:
We’ve been saving up for years to buy a house. But my husband’s ex-wife got sick. Her therapies cost a lot. He said, “I can’t abandon my son’s mom! She has no one!” I said it’s not our problem if she didn’t have savings. But he insisted, saying it’s his money.
I pretended I was okay, but I’d secretly been working on a plan. I took the money from our savings and made the first payment on a house.
Days later, my husband came, horrified, and told me that he found out what I had done.
He started screaming at me, saying I had no right to take the money without consulting him first. I did it all to protect our family’s future; after all, his ex-wife shouldn’t be his responsibility anymore.
But now my husband refuses to talk to me and has even threatened to leave me.
What should I do?
