Queen Camilla has had the most dramatic royal tenure in recent decades.
Camilla has evolved from Charles’ mistress to the king’s spouse, making her one of the most adored and important members of the Royal Family, not least because of how she managed her husband’s cancer treatment, which prompted her to take on even more responsibilities within the Firm.
King Charles is finally returning to his regal duties. The king and queen just returned to the UK on a trip to Australia and Samoa, but Camilla has spent the previous few days in sadness following the d.e.a.t.h of her dog.
The queen has also been forced to cancel royal activities in recent weeks due to a persistent chest infection. Buckingham Palace issued an update on Camilla’s health a few days ago, and now a source close to her has provided additional information.
Charles is finally back on track and ready to resume his royal duties. He opted to stop his cancer treatment while he and Camilla traveled to Australia and Samoa, returning home in late October.
Unfortunately, Camilla became ill despite the pleasant weather “down under”. On November 5, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen Consort had to cancel several engagements owing to a chest infection.
Queen Camilla health update
Queen Camilla hadn’t been seen in public in weeks, and only days ago, a new update on her health arrived. According to Daily Mail’s palace insiders, Camilla is in “good spirits” and has decided to cancel her previous appointments so that her cough does not ruin anyone’s day.
They also stated that Camilla is “on good form,” although she coughs as soon as she begins speaking. Fortunately, the insider indicated that there is no need to be concerned about her health moving ahead. On Friday, Charles went to the Royal Variety Performance alone.
Although Camilla admitted to “feeling a little under the weather,” the Queen was “naturally disappointed to miss the evening’s entertainments, and sends her sincere apologies to all those involved.”
A representative for Buckingham Palace shared with Vanity Fair: “Following a recent chest infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritise sufficient rest.”
Queen Camilla praised for new documentary
Camilla was recovering at home, away from the heat of the spotlight, yet she nevertheless became the talk of the town. On November 11, the documentary Her Majesty The Queen: Behind Closed Doors was broadcast on ITV in the United Kingdom. The documentary emphasized the progress made in eliminating domestic and s..exual vi:olence in the United Kingdom. Camilla has long supported charities that help vic:tims of domestic vio:lence.
Following the airing of the program, the Queen Consort was quickly hailed for her efforts.
Queen Camilla mourns d.e.a.t.h of her dog
Camilla’s period of rest at home has also caused tremendous sadness in her royal family. In mid-November, the queen issued a devastating statement announcing the d.e.a.t.h of her beloved rescue dog, Beth. Beth, a Jack Russell terrier, was put down due to an untreatable tumor.
Camilla got Beth in 2012 from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where she also takes her other Jack Russell, Bluebell. Beth was just 12 weeks old at the time. In a 2020 interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, the queen discussed her fondness of dogs.
‘Tearing the Royal Family apart’
Royal commentator Tom Sykes of The Daily Beast revealed that the “power dynamic” between Charles and Prince William had changed after the monarch was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024. Executive power and influence “are already” coming William’s way. The royal expert suggested that this could be a terrible omen for his brother, Prince Harry.
Furthermore, Queen Camilla is perhaps the most affected by this. According to Sykes, King Charles’ d.e.a.t.h could have a tremendous impact on his wife, whom William has “tolerated” for the sake of the Royal Family’s stability.
William and Camilla’s relationship has grown stronger over time. However, royal analyst Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly that the future king only “tolerates” his stepmother, who is thought to be “a little afraid” of William.
Prince William & Queen Camilla has “a lot to overcome,”
According to a family friend of Queen Camilla, William has “warmed up to Camilla over time” and the two have a “familial relationship,” but there is “a lot to overcome.”
“William and Harry had always distrusted Camilla and felt resentment toward her because of their devotion to their mother. They never felt comfortable opening up to her in any real way. William and Harry’s distrust grew when they found out Camilla was leaking stories to the press to make herself look better,” the source told Us Weekly.
