Single gay man adopts 5 kids with special needs to offer them the care they deserve
Ben Carpenter from Huddersfield, England, a single father of five adopted dísαвlєd children.
He has a compassionate heart and the drive to change the lives of others in a positive way. He is the one who inspires, remembering people who have dedicated their existence to doing the right thing.
This is the adoption process and his fundraising efforts to build a sensory room to help develop his children’s senses through special lighting, music, and objects.
It wasn’t easy for Ben to be able to adopt a child. He is single and gay, which didn’t exactly put him in the highest priority band when it came to adopting children.
Ben Carpenter, 37, became the youngest gay man to adopt when he took on his first child at just 21 years old.
Since then, he has adopted five more children with special needs as part of his mission to help the most vulnerable children in the best way possible.
With a range of disabilities, his children, Jack, 14, Ruby, 10, Lily, 9, Joseph, 6, Teddy and Louis, 3, all have complex needs, from αutísm to ¢єяєвяαℓ ραℓѕу.
Ben, who sadly lost his sixth child Noah at the age of two in 2019 after a stomach infection led to complications, insisted that “parenting is so much more than being biologically attached to the child”.
Fast forward 15 years and Ben, now 36, has remained dedicated to the cause he considers worthwhile. In fact, he has taken in no fewer than six children over the years, describing the process as “fun and quick”.
Ben, a former special needs worker, has been dubbed a “super dad” by friends and family.
However, Ben was quick to respond that he was not “superdad” and always wanted to be a dad.
When asked how he coped with so many children on his own, Ben replied: ‘Just routine. I have a constant structure and routine. I have great friends and my mum who is a wonderful support network for me.
‘They are the most wonderful children, you know people say “the children are lucky to have you” but I’m so lucky to have them. They enrich my life in every way.’
Ben has been trying to raise funds on Just Giving for a sensory room in his family home to help develop his children’s senses through special lighting, music, and objects.
What an amazing man Ben is to have adopted five children with special needs.
He is truly people who make the world go round. Thank you for your immeasurable kindness in raising these children.
