Let’s say the truth – most of us reheat food leftovers because it’s quick and convenient. However, not all foods are safe for reheating. Reheating leftovers makes the food lose nutrients and allows the expansion of harmful substances which can seriously harm your health. Here’s a list of 7 foods you should not reheat
1. Mushrooms
Mushrooms should be eaten immediately after they are prepared. If you have mushrooms left over, it is better to eat them cold and not reheat them. Mushrooms change the composition of their proteins while they are reheated and their taste changes. Because of this, they can cause many digestive problems and will completely lose their health benefits.
2. Spinach
You should never warm up already cooked spinach because it can be very unsafe for your overall health. It is recommended to eat spinach right after its preparation. You ask why? Well, spinach contains a high rate of nitrates. The nitrates which give it some goodness don’t like being reheated and can have c.a.r.c.i.n.o.g.e.n.i.c properties. If you’ve any left over, just ditch it.
3. Chicken
Reheated chicken meat can cause serious digestive problems and damage your organs. If you must reheat it, do so on a very low temperature or just eat the meat cold.
4. Potato
Potatoes have numerous useful properties, which make them great for the overall health, but if potatoes are left to cool at room temperature and then left unrefrigerated, conditions may be right for growth of botulism, and when you reheat and much, you’re in big trouble.
5. Eggs
Eggs become very toxic when reheated at high temperature. Therefore, avoid reheating eggs in order to stay healthy.
6. Celery
Like beets and spinach, celery contains nitrates which are converted to nitrites when reheated. Most people chop a bigger amount of celery and add it to their soup for a couple of days in advance which is a big mistake as reheating celery is highly dangerous. When reheating the soup, which is totally fine, you should remove the pieces of celery in order to reduce the risk of problems later.
7. Beet
Just like with spinach, beets contain nitrate and is therefore dangerous to reheat. That does not mean you should avoid this food. It is simply not recommended to heat it again.
